| Our Heritage trails are
specifically based on the history of the Lake District. Many of
our trails take in the villages, residences and areas of associated
history of many of the Lake District's artists, poets and authors,
such as Wordsworth, Coleridge, Ruskin, Ransome and of course Beatrix
Potter.
The heritage of the Lake District goes way back to Neolithic times
with examples such as the Castlerigg Stone Circle, beneath Blencathra
near Keswick.

The famous Langdale Pikes, which is one of the most popular
of Lake District views, was the site of an early stone age axe factory.
Many famous walks and climbs are available in the Langdales. The
most impressive roman links are the forts at Hardknott and Galava
at Ambleside and the Roman road over High Street.
Muncaster Castle has been the home of the Pennington family since
the 12th century.

| Muncaster Castle |
The castle is home to a fine collection of art and antiques. One
of our walks to Muncaster Fell takes in the grounds of the castle,
and a trip inside could be included on this day. Alternatively,
less than a mile away is the famous Ravenglass and Eskdale railway,
taking passengers on an idyllic nine mile trip in to the hills.
This could be included to form the basis of several delightful walks
in the area.
