The lakes and tarns of the area, make ideal points of interest. There are numerous walks that can be planned around these delightful stretches of water.

A Wintry Burnmoor Tarn

The five tarns of Eskdale, of which Burnmoor Tarn, left, is the largest, form a pleasant low to medium level route.

Alternatively, enjoy a seven mile walk from Glenridding along the shores of Ullswater, the second largest stretch of water in the Lake District. At the end sit back and relax on a boat taking you across the water back to the start of your walk.

Other popular venues for walks include, Tarn Hows, Moss Eccles Tarn (close to Beatrix Potters' former home at Hilltop,

(Sawrey), Buttermere
Derwent Water and Skiddaw
and Derwentwater.

The latter can be walked around as a complete circuit or shortened to include a trip back by boat.
