Alfred Wainwright was a solitary walker who was passionate about the lakeland mountains and drew them in situ and from photographs he took on his frequent forays in to the hills. He then

wrote seven world-famous pictorial guide books to the different areas of the Lakes. He produced his guides so that when he could walk in the hills no longer he could still enjoy their beauty.

Choices for Wainwright trails are almost endless, but some of the more popular are: Haystacks, (his favourite fell), Pillar, Green and Great Gable, and High Street.
